Virtual Book Launch | ‘Regarding Paul R. Williams: A Photographer’s View’ by Janna Ireland
Show your support this Sunday, September 13th for a virtual book launch of Janna Ireland‘s latest publication, Regarding Paul R. Williams: A Photographer’s View. Over the past 5 years, Janna has made it her mission to document and archive the works of the iconic Angeleno architect. With a body of work spanning decades, Janna researched thoroughly and tracked down these buildings through word of mouth and with help from the likes of fellow LA architect, Barbara Bestor.
Join Barbara and Janna in a discussion about the life and work of Paul R. Williams as well as what his designs represent today. Both Ireland and Bestor want to make it their mission that Williams’ work is not forgotten in the history of Modernism. They will discuss the intersections of art, design, race, and how these play in the photography of Janna Ireland. Ireland was recently quoted in the LA Times, “I’m interested in stories about black people, and I’m interested in stories about Los Angeles. There’s an intersection there.” With deep black and white compositions making up the collection in this book, there is a common thread of stories running through them, that of the larger than life legacy of Paul R. Williams who still inspires young artists and inspires the cultural landscape of Los Angeles.
The event is free to the public and requires a reservation. Hosted by Angel City Press, the event starts at 4pm, Sunday September 13th.
